Solemn Installation of the New Rector of HSMS, Opening of the Academic Semester, and Welcoming of New Students at HSIT.

Holy Spirit Major Seminary recently witnessed a momentous and joyous celebration marking the official installation of its new rector, Rev. Fr. Peter Chanel Gomes, alongside the solemn opening of the new academic semester and the warm reception of 11 new  students and Rev. Fr. Dominic Sentu Rozario as the residential professor.

The grand celebration commenced with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Most Rev. Bejoy D'Cruze, Archbishop of Dhaka. Concelebrating the Holy Eucharist were Most Rev. Paul Gomes, Bishop of Joypurhat and former rector of the seminary; Mons. Abel Taglo, Secretary to the Apostolic Nunciature in Bangladesh; Rev. Fr. Milton Joseph Gomes, Director of the Holy Spirit Institute of Theology; and the newly appointed rector, Rev. Fr. Peter Chanel Gomes, alongside other esteemed clergy.

A central highlight of the liturgy was the formal installation of the new rector. Following canonical procedures, Rev. Fr. Peter Chanel Gomes publicly professed his faith and formally accepted his appointment as the Rector of Holy Spirit Major Seminary, committing himself to guide and form the future shepherds of the Church with dedication and pastoral care.

Following the Holy Mass, the academic tone for the semester was set during a comprehensive orientation session led by the Director of the Institute of Theology, outlining the vision and expectations for the upcoming months of study and spiritual formation.

The celebration then transitioned into a vibrant cultural program filled with gratitude, joy, and fellowship. The seminary community gathered to honor and bid a heartfelt farewell to the former rector, Most Rev. Paul Gomes, celebrating his elevation to the episcopate as the Bishop of Joypurhat.

At the same time, the community enthusiastically welcomed Rev. Fr. Peter Chanel Gomes as the new Rector, Rev. Fr. Dominic Sentu Rozario as the new residential professor, and five new seminarians. The memorable day concluded with a delicious, festive lunch shared by the bishop, priests, sisters, guests, and seminarians alike. The event served as a profound testament to the seminary's enduring mission of spiritual growth, intellectual rigor, and fraternal unity to building up the Church in Bangladesh for the years ahead.
